White House Adviser Says BRICS Coalition Likely to Collapse

(MENAFN) White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro declared the BRICS coalition unlikely to endure, citing deep-seated animosities among its members. Speaking on Monday during an interview with Trump strategist Steve Bannon, Navarro argued the bloc’s survival is undermined by internal conflicts and dependence on the U.S. market.

“India has been at war with China for decades… and I just remembered, it was China that gave Pakistan the nuclear bomb,” Navarro told Bannon. He highlighted ongoing tensions, noting, “They have ships flying around the Indian Ocean with Chinese flags. [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi, see how you kind of work that out.”

Navarro further accused China of aggressive moves against Russia, claiming, “China claims they own Vladivostok, the Russian port, and they are already through massive illegal immigration into Siberia, basically colonizing Siberia, which is the biggest landmass of the Russian semi-empire.” It is important to note, however, that China does not officially claim Russian territory, and the two countries resolved their border dispute with the 2004 Complementary Agreement on the Eastern Section of the China-Russia Boundary.

“I don’t see how [BRICS] stays together since historically they hate each other and kill each other,” Navarro asserted.

On trade dynamics, Navarro emphasized the bloc’s reliance on the U.S. market. “The bottom line is none of these countries can survive if they don’t sell to the United States, and when they sell to the United States, their exports, they’re like vampires sucking our blood dry with their unfair trade practices.”

Navarro’s criticism of India extends to social media, where several of his posts on the country have been fact-checked and flagged with Community Notes. He responded by accusing Indian “special interests” of “trying to interfere with domestic dialogues with lies about India buying Russian oil.”

Following these critiques, Navarro dismissed the Community Notes as “crap,” adding: “India has [the] largest population in the world and all it can do is manage [a] few hundred thousand X propagandists to jerk around a poll?”

The remarks underscore persistent geopolitical fissures within BRICS, questioning the group’s cohesion amid complex rivalries and external economic dependencies.
