Trump envoy arrives in Moscow for discussions with Putin
(MENAFN) Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, has arrived in Moscow for another round of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This visit is part of Washington’s broader diplomatic push to advance a peace plan aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict.
Witkoff has previously visited Russia three times, meeting with senior Russian officials, including Putin. These ongoing discussions signal a deepening commitment from both sides to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the hostilities.
The reported US proposal includes recognizing Crimea as Russian territory, freezing the conflict along the current battle lines, and formally acknowledging Russia’s control over large parts of four regions that voted to join the country. The deal would also block Ukraine’s entry into NATO and outline a phased removal of sanctions on Russia.
Moscow has expressed appreciation for Trump’s diplomatic efforts and remains open to negotiations. However, Russian officials have insisted that any lasting peace must reflect the current territorial situation and address core issues—especially Ukraine’s NATO aspirations.
